A family cookbook for Christmas

A hardcover of the family’s handwritten recipe cards, with each card facing its typed recipe, is a Christmas gift for a parent or grandparent that the whole family can help make.

Stirloom is in review for ChatGPT. Orders open once Stirloom is live in ChatGPT: the book is made there and paid for here, on stirloom.ambientapp.ai. The dates below are this year’s printer cut-offs.

A plan that works back from Sun Nov 29

  1. By Sun Nov 8. Ask relatives for their recipe cards. Send the private family link, so they can add a photo of each card from any browser, and give them two weeks.
  2. By Sun Nov 22. Have every card in. Share your own card photos in ChatGPT and read each typed recipe against its card, filling in any word marked [?].
  3. By Thu Nov 26. Write the dedication, then page through the whole book in the preview.
  4. By Sun Nov 29. Order, for standard shipping in the US. Express in the US and standard shipping to Canada have later dates, listed above.

Ways to give it

  • One book for the person it honors. Ship it straight to them: the packing slip shows no prices.
  • A copy for every household. One order can have up to 10 copies to the same address. Order again for each other address.
  • A book the whole family made. Relatives add their own cards through the family link, without an account, and every card waits for your OK. A “recipes by cook” page credits each of them.
  • A dedication at the front. A few lines about who the book is for and whose kitchen it came from.
  • If you run out of time. Start the book anyway and give the family link as the present: relatives keep adding cards, and you order the book when it is full.

What the book is

An 8.5 × 11 inch hardcover with a matte cover in linen, sage or tomato, printed in color on coated paper that wipes clean in the kitchen. Each card photo is straightened and faces its typed recipe, with the back of the card when it has writing, a contents page by category, an index and lined pages for new notes. A book holds 6 to 120 recipes and ships to the United States and Canada. See prices.
